The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has outlined plans to complete abandoned projects and disburse ₦400 million in relief materials, as part of renewed efforts to improve welfare and infrastructure in its mandate areas.
The Commission’s Executive Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, disclosed this during an engagement with student leaders from Ilaje and Ese-Odo local government areas, where discussions also centred on bursary payments, education support, and community development.
Poroye said OSOPADEC would prioritise the completion of ongoing projects, particularly in communities such as Mahin and Agadagba-Obon, noting that several school and healthcare facilities had remained unfinished for years.
He explained that the Commission is adopting public-private partnerships to deliver key infrastructure, including student hostels at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko; Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo; and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa. According to him, the initiative will provide affordable accommodation, especially for students from oil-producing communities.
On student welfare, Poroye said technology had been introduced to improve bursary disbursement, allowing beneficiaries to receive payments seamlessly. He added that proposals for an increase in bursary allowances had already been forwarded to the state government.
The OSOPADEC boss also revealed plans to distribute ₦400 million worth of palliative materials to residents of Obe-Nla, Obe-Adun, and Obe-Jedo, assuring that strict monitoring mechanisms would ensure transparency and accountability in the process.
He further highlighted ongoing interventions in water supply and waterways maintenance, stressing the Commission’s commitment to prudent resource management.
Earlier, Director of Community Welfare, Comrade Kayode Ebiseni, said the meeting reviewed the 2023/2024 bursary scheme and initiated preparations for the 2024/2025 exercise, while providing an avenue for newly elected student leaders to interact with the Commission.
Leaders of the National Association of Ilaje Students (NAIS) and the Federation of Ese-Odo Local Government Students (FELGOS) commended OSOPADEC’s leadership for its inclusive approach and pledged continued collaboration to sustain development efforts.
