Ondo Distributes Appointment Letters to 930 Newly Recruited Health Workers

The Ondo State Government has commenced the distribution of appointment letters to over 930 newly recruited health professionals, marking a significant step toward strengthening primary healthcare services and addressing manpower shortages across the state’s health facilities.

According to Ayo Falana, PRO
OSPHCDA , he said the exercise, which began at the headquarters of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) in Akure, covers the deployment of medical doctors, nurses, midwives, community health extension workers, laboratory scientists, pharmacy technicians, health information officers, and other healthcare personnel across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of OSPHCDA, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, described the recruitment as a strategic intervention aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services, particularly at the grassroots level. He explained that the recruitment process was conducted transparently and in line with the state’s Human Resource for Health Policy.
According to him, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s approval of the recruitment demonstrates the administration’s commitment to strengthening the health sector and ensuring that residents have access to skilled healthcare professionals.
Dr. Akanbiemu noted that the newly recruited workers have completed the necessary documentation processes and will be deployed immediately to underserved and hard-to-reach communities across the state. He added that their deployment is expected to reduce patient waiting time, improve antenatal and immunisation coverage, and enhance the state’s response to maternal and child health challenges.
He further highlighted ongoing investments by the Aiyedatiwa administration in the health sector, including the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres, provision of essential drugs, and continuous capacity building for health workers, all geared towards achieving universal health coverage in the state.
The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the current exercise involves the employment of 800 health workers across various cadres, in addition to the earlier recruitment of 130 doctors and nurses, bringing the total number of newly employed health professionals to 930.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the state government for the opportunity. A newly appointed nurse-midwife, Mrs. Adebimpe Olorunfemi, alongside Mrs. Ajibike Afolayan and Mr. Azeez Olayinka, described the recruitment as life-changing and pledged to discharge their duties with professionalism, dedication, and compassion.
The agency also assured members of the public that the deployment process would be closely monitored to ensure equitable distribution of personnel and effective service delivery across communities. Community leaders and Ward Development Committees were urged to support the new health workers by providing a conducive working environment.
The Ondo State Government reiterated its commitment to building a resilient healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of all residents, noting that the recruitment exercise is aimed not only at creating employment opportunities but also at improving health outcomes and saving lives across the Sunshine State.
