The Ondo State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is engaging in anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the governor remains fully committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, described the allegations as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary controversy following the governor’s appearance in a photograph with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Ondo Central Senatorial candidate, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, at the Government House Chapel.
According to the statement, the Government House Chapel, like the mosque within the Government House premises, is a public place of worship open to all citizens, religious leaders, and public officials, regardless of political affiliation. It noted that Senator Akinyelure attended the chapel for worship and also used the opportunity to appreciate Governor Aiyedatiwa for sending representatives and a goodwill message during his 70th birthday celebration.
The government further explained that the visit was a routine act of courtesy that should not be interpreted as a political endorsement or alliance.
It also pointed out that Senator Ayo Akinyelure is the younger brother of Chief Pius Akinyelure, a prominent APC leader, ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council in Ondo State.
Reaffirming the governor’s political stance, the statement stressed that Aiyedatiwa remains loyal to the APC and will continue to work with the party’s leadership and structures to secure victory for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The government urged APC members and the public to ignore what it described as the antics of mischief-makers seeking to sow discord within the ruling party, assuring that the governor remains focused on governance and the continued development of Ondo State.
