BeyondPartyLine Emerges in Ondo, Mobilises Citizens for Competent Leadership
By Olusegun HOSEA
A new non-partisan citizens’ movement, BeyondPartyLine, has been formed in Ondo State to mobilise residents towards supporting competent, credible and people-oriented candidates in the 2027 general elections and subsequent elections.
The group, according to its Convener, Hon. Leye Igbabo, is aimed at encouraging citizens to look beyond political party affiliations when deciding who should represent them at various levels of government.
BeyondPartyLine said it would identify and promote candidates based on their competence, character, credibility and track record, regardless of the political parties under which they contest.
The movement also plans to mobilise patriotic and public-spirited citizens, particularly those who have not been actively involved in politics, to take greater interest in the quality of leadership produced through elections.
It stated that members of political parties would be welcomed into the movement, provided they were willing to place the interests of the people above party loyalty.
The group further disclosed plans to embark on public enlightenment and advocacy campaigns to encourage voters to move beyond party sentiments and assess aspirants based on their capacity and previous contributions to society.
According to the group, it would also reject what it described as the politics of palliatives, deception and emergency projects, stressing that the previous records of aspirants should be examined rather than projects initiated only when they begin to seek political offices.
BeyondPartyLine noted that after 28 years of democratic practice, Ondo State could no longer afford to elect representatives based solely on political party symbols while the needs of communities remained unmet.
The movement said it would encourage voters to ask critical questions about aspirants, including what they had achieved before seeking office, their accessibility to the people and their preparedness to serve rather than rule.
It therefore called on well-meaning sons and daughters of Ondo State who believe in development above party sentiment to join the movement.
“This is not about a party. This is about our people. This is about our future,” the group stated.
It added that the date for its official inauguration would be announced in due course.
Interested members of the public were directed to contact Hon. Leye Igbabo, Convener of BeyondPartyLine, on 0803 632 3363 for inquiries and membership.
The statement was dated August 19, 2026, in Akure, Ondo State.
