SSANU honours Ondo NUJ Chair, Adegbite with Leadership Award at Southwest Event
…..Vows to use pen to fight societal ills
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, has been honoured with distinguished leadership Award by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko chapter.
Adegbite was honoured alongside a former Attorney General of Ondo State, Adekola Olawoye; former Ondo state NLC Chairman, Com. Victor Amoko and others on Thursday, 27th August, 2026 during the 80th Regular Zonal Executive Council Meeting of SSANU, South-West Zone, held at the Nelson Mandela Hall of AAUA.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of AAUA-SSANU, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, said Adegbite was recognised for his commitment to amplifying the voices of the voiceless and promoting issues affecting society through journalism.
Ogungbeni said, “We deemed it necessary to honour people who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to society. Prince Leke Adegbite has consistently used his platform to give voice to the voiceless and draw attention to issues that matter to the people.
“This award is therefore a recognition of his commitment, professionalism and service to humanity. We believe he deserves to be encouraged to do more in the interest of society.”
Responding, Prince Adegbite, who was represented at the ceremony by a journalist, Adeboye Ado, thanked the association for the recognition and pledged that journalists in the state would continue to uphold the ethics of the profession.
Adegbite said, “I am deeply grateful to SSANU for finding me worthy of this honour. I see the award not just as a recognition, but as a call to greater responsibility in the discharge of my duties as a journalist and NUJ chairman.
“We will continue to use the pen to expose societal ills, amplify the voices of the voiceless and promote unbiased reportage. The media must remain a strong pillar in the pursuit of justice, accountability and good governance.”
The NUJ chairman has received three different awards from the institution (AAUA) within the past three months.
