Ondo Govt Orders Fumigation of Igbokoda River, Provides Health Kits for Residents
Ondo Govt Orders Fumigation Of Igbokoda River Over Foul Odour After Air Force Crash
The Ondo State Government has ordered the fumigation of Igbokoda River and the distribution of essential health kits to residents following complaints about a strong stench emanating from the waterway where a Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed last week.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa gave the directive to the state Ministries of Environment and Health to prevent a possible outbreak of diseases and protect residents from potential health hazards.
The directive comes amid concerns over the impact of the incident on the river, which serves as a major source of livelihood for residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, said the governor had also directed the Ilaje Local Government to arrange water tankers for the continuous supply of potable water to residents if the river was found to be severely polluted and unsafe for use.
According to the statement, the water supply arrangement will remain in place pending a lasting solution to the pollution concerns.
The governor further directed the Ministries of Health and Environment to distribute nose masks and other essential health kits to residents as precautionary measures against possible health risks associated with the incident.
Aiyedatiwa also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing the necessary support to the Nigerian Air Force in its ongoing evacuation efforts.
He assured residents of the government’s determination to safeguard their welfare and safety while measures are taken to address the situation.
The state government urged relevant agencies to take the necessary steps to minimise potential health risks and provide relief to residents of the affected community.
