Akinyelure Mourns Fasoranti, Says Yoruba Nation Has Lost a Father Figure
Distinguished Senator Ayo Akinyelure has expressed grief over the death of the Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing his passing at the age of 100 as a painful loss to Ondo State and the Yoruba nation.
Akinyelure, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Ondo Central in the 2027 general election, said the late elder statesman played a fatherly role that would be greatly missed.
In a condolence message signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Strategy, Charles Akinwon, the former two-term senator described Fasoranti’s death as the fall of an iroko tree.
“An Iroko tree has fallen, as Baba’s fatherly roles would be greatly missed. I sympathise with the Akure community in particular and the entire Ondo State in general over this great loss,” Akinyelure said.
Born on May 11, 1926, in Uso, Ondo State, Fasoranti served as Education Commissioner in the old Ondo State and was a close associate and confidant of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The late Afenifere leader recently celebrated his 100th birthday, marking a century of life and service.
Akinyelure also extended his condolences to the Ondo State Governor and government, the Deji of Akure, the people of Akure Kingdom and the immediate family of the deceased.
“I sympathise with the Governor and government of Ondo State, the Deji and entire people of Akure Kingdom and all the immediate family Baba left behind, and I pray God to grant our father eternal rest,” he said.
