The people of Ijagba Community in Ose Local Government area of Ondo State has been under incessant attack from the alleged Herdsmen. The community has been terrorised for the past two years of which many lives had been lost. According to one Mr Ogoh, who called himself a Prime Minister of the Community said Mr Ohiremen Isaac Odeh was kidnapped along his farm road with his son named Solomon Isaac Odeh. He said the abductors later killed Mr Ohiremen Isaac. While his son was released after payment of four hundred thousand naira ransom to secure the life of the son of the deceased. The remains of the late Isaac had been deposited in the Mortuary.
He said Herdsmen had destroyed their farm lands, burnt their camps and other valuables in the community. He said they could no longer have peace in the environment any longer as they (the Herdsmen) had taken over their Communities.
Ogoh said they have recorded over fifteen victims in the area among whom was the former Chairman of Ose Local Government, Hon. Bola Adelegbe. He said they had reported the case to the appropriate authority in the land several times while a memo had been presented to the Government after the meeting of the Obas in the Communities in the past years on the similar problem and yet no positive response from the Government till date.
However, the people of the community are now calling on the relevant of Authorities again to come to their Aid and save them from the incessant attacks from the alleged Herdsmen. In his words “it is now imperative due to the ugly incident to carry out and seek the support of the Government and all relevant authorities to protect our lives and properties, which is one of the aims of government since we can no longer go to the farm or sleep with our two eyes closed”.
Ogoh said the weapons in the hands of these Herdsmen are more powerful than that in the hands of the Amotekun Security men that is based in the community and therefore, calling on the government to help them establish a strong Military base in the area for the purpose of curbing the activities of these notorious killers.
The community are now demanding from the government to deploy the Nigeria Military men to the area and mount a checkpoint along Ifon, Ijagba, Imoru, Ote and Okeluse area, in order to curb these menance .
