Cardinal among the 17 UN global goals is Social inclusion of persons with disabilities and the UN recognised Sports as a tool for achieving this.

This is further corroborated with the good intentions of the leadership of the Corps to protect the rights of People living with Disability by setting up a Unit to see to their welfare.

In collaboration with the Ondo State Agency for the Welfare of People with Disability, this year’s International Day of Peace started in Ondo State Command with a Table Tennis competition between representatives of the Corps and that of People With Disability.

The objective of this event is to break down barriers in order to emphasize importance on equality and the UN’s global goal related to social inclusion and peace through sports.

Four single rounds and two double rounds were played between NSCDC and PWD teams where the PWD table tennis team won in all.

The event was witnessed by the State Commandant, Engr. Olatundun Olayinka, the Chairman, Ondo State Agency for the Welfare of People with Disability, Princess Folasade Arise ably represented by the Director of Finance and Administration, Mrs Afun Oluwaseun in company of other senior officials of the agency.

The DFA registered her deep seated gratitude on behalf of the agency and People with Disability and clamoured for continuous collaboration in the future.

” This is commendable and spirit lifting! The Corps has proved time and time again that they are people friendly and this inclusion is first of it’s kind.” She said.

It was all fun as cash gifts and certificate of participation were presented to the PWDs by the Commandant. Excitement filled the air as ability in disability was practically demonstrated and a sense of inclusion seen given to them.

The celebration of 2023 UN International Day of Peace continues with a Peace walk and Public Lecture.
