U.S. Mobilizes $100 Million in Life-Saving Humanitarian Assistance for Urgent Needs in Gaza and the West Bank

Today, President Joseph R. Biden traveled to Tel Aviv to express the United States’ steadfast support for the people of Israel in the aftermath of Hamas’ barbaric terrorist attack, and to help address the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza that has left Palestinian families without access to clean water, medical treatment, and safe shelter. It is critical that the people in Gaza receive life-saving assistance as soon as possible and that civilians are protected consistent with the law of war.

President Biden announced today that the United States is providing $100 million in humanitarian assistance for Palestinian people affected by the conflict in Gaza and the Palestinian people in the West Bank. This funding, through USAID and the U.S. Department of State, bolsters support for displaced and other conflict-affected Palestinian people through the provisions of safe water, emergency food, shelter, hygiene support, and healthcare services. This funding will also provide psychosocial support and additional humanitarian protection services for conflict-affected communities, including women and children. The United States provides humanitarian assistance through trusted partners including UN agencies and international NGOs.

The United States has been clear that safe, ongoing access for humanitarian assistance to reach civilians in need is imperative. We are urgently working with the UN, Israel, and Egypt to get further life-saving assistance into Gaza where our trusted partners are ready to distribute it to those in need.
