The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers -NUT, Ondo State Chapter has cried out to the government to save one of their School property from the hands of the Scavengers that are going around picking some of the discarded materials for their use. According to the Head Teachers of the St. Anthony’s Primary School, Akure , who pleaded for anonymity said the Scavengers always come to their school to steal their property. According to the complaints from the head teacher, ” most of the school property like ceiling fans, school Bell, Doors and host of other had been stolen by these scavengers when the school is not in session.

Attempted To Be Removed Library Door 

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, who have his office Domiciled in the school said they have fed up with the situation. Disclosing this to some of the Evaluators from the Federal Ministry of Education, said the Parents Teachers Association of the School are aware of the menace and that they had written several letter, taken some photograph of the property affected in respect to this to the government and that the government is yet to take action.

Similarly, the School Library Door, according to them was almost removed as the Scavengers trying to remove them by force but they couldn’t get it removed before people saw them and took to their heels. The man said most guys normally scaled the fence and run into the grave yard besides the school for escaped.

Meanwhile, most of the Iron used for the front fencing of the school had been removed. They also broke some of the classroom and offices and ceiling to get inside the school compound and took some properties away.

As it is now, the school does not have security personnel as at the time of filling this report .When asked if there is security personnel on ground to protect the school property while staff and learners are away?, he said for now, the security man was not available and that he was indisposed and so he was not available.

Similarly, the Head Teachers said before, some of the neighborhood particularly women that are selling goods had their Container beside the school fence and these served as a protection to the school due to their present within the school premises and with this, the Scavengers find it difficult before from coming to steal from the school. According to them, it was the government that asked all those sellers to remove their Containers and since then the whole environment had be taken over by the Scavengers.

Also, it was gathered that most learners books in the school too are being reportedly stolen. According to them, most books donated to learner’s by some NGO or Philanthropists are giving to the learners instantly inorder to avoid it been stolen by these people. They however, called on the government to come to their Aid since the school is a public schools.
