The Public Relations Officer of Federal Fire Service, Ondo State Command, Deputy Supretended Victor Abayomi Oshin has said people should do away with the causes of fire, particularly during this yuletide period. Disclosing this in an interview with Exponent Magazine News, in Akure , the State Capital of Ondo State, at this year’s safety rally of the command to sensitize the public to be safety conscious, with the theme: Prevention, our collective responsibility. Abayomi said members of the Public should call upon them, in case there is fire outbreak within their domain.

According to him, this year’s safety week celebration is to create an awareness to the generality of the public, that the Federal Fire Service is still in existence to serve the general public whenever there is an emergency of fire outbreak. In his words” we are doing our safety week to sensitize the people that, Federal Fire Service is in existence in case if there is any fire outbreak, they should call on us”. Speaking further, Deputy “SUPO” Abayomi said, they’re also using the week to celebrate their heroes who had died in the cause of fighting the fire and that they are using the opportunity to remember them and appreciate their efforts towards the development of the command, in a bit to ensure that they put in total control of the fire outbreak in our society, as those heroes paid the prize in fighting fire in a bit of saving lives and properties when they were alive.

In another development, Supretended Abayomi advised the general public that they should be safety conscious in this Ember month, as they celebrate along during this yuletide period, as he implored them to do away with anything that could cause fire in their domain. He gave some of the factors that could lead to the fire outbreak, to include accident, carelessness and arson.

Explaining the factors, “SUPO” Abayomi said arson was an intentional or willful act of the people setting house or properties ablaze. He said carelessness was the major reason behind the causes of fire outbreak which he believed was not general accepted as an excuse that people normally made when there’s a fire outbreak, as people were not careful enough to control the fire within their reach.

He said some people may deliberately keep fuel in the house which according to him was dangerous and this was part of the carelessness on the part of the people which are leading to the fire outbreak.
Similarly, “Deputy SUPO” Abayomi said when some people are cooking, they don’t monitor what  they’re cooking, to the extent that the Gas they are using to cook could cause fire outbreak in the house. He said people should be very careful this time around, so that there would not be any emergency during this festive period.
