Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with UN World Food Program (WFP) Executive Director Cindy McCain to discuss increasing global food insecurity and working together to prioritize the most vulnerable communities. Administrator Power expressed appreciation for WFP staff who are responding in difficult and dangerous conditions to address the severe food security crisis in Gaza. The Administrator noted continued U.S. efforts to address the dire humanitarian conditions with interagency, donor, and Government of Israel counterparts. Administrator Power and Executive Director McCain also discussed urgent food insecurity and response needs in Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen and Ukraine. Administrator Power underscored USAID’s continued support for WFP’s efforts to address emergency food assistance needs across multiple complex operations amid a persistent gap between available resources and increasing global food assistance needs. Administrator Power and Executive Director McCain spoke about how WFP plans to prioritize food assistance to those in greatest need through effective resource planning and oversight while mobilizing funding from diverse partnerships.
