Ahead of the coming governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, leaders of the party in Akure South local government area have affirmed their backing for the candidacy of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

The endorsement came during a meeting of the party leaders on Thursday, held at St. James Caring Heart Mega Primary School, Irowo, Akure.

At the meeting, members of the Akure South APC unanimously endorsed Governor Aiyedatiwa as their candidate for the imminent gubernatorial election.

Speaker at the event agreed that the common interest of Akure-speaking communities can only be protected and promoted by the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa for another term.

The Chairman of Akure South APC, Chief Fesobi Akinmolayan, highlighted a commendable aspect of Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, praising the Governor for seamlessly continuing the projects initiated by the late former governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, thereby demonstrating a commitment to continuity and progress that is truly admirable.

“We wholeheartedly support and endorse Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the upcoming gubernatorial election as our candidate and we are confident in his ability to continue leading Ondo State towards greater prosperity and growth”, he said.

Prof. Olu Aderounmi, one of the party leaders, expressed his confidence in the ability of Governor Aiyedatiwa to lead the State forward, urging the people of Akure to back him.

He said: “Everything expressed here today in Akure South will also resonate across all local governments because we are one party. One key factor motivating our support for Aiyedatiwa is his attentiveness. He has listening ears. When we raised concerns about the condition of Oda and Ijoka roads, he promptly took action. Personally, I’ve known Aiyedatiwa since 1984 when he was my student, and I wholeheartedly endorse his aspiration.”

In separate statements, a former lawmaker, Hon. Sunday Olajide, a community leader, Chief Ade Fayehun (Ade Basket) and another party chieftain, Mrs Ronke Ojo, among others, said Akure holds a strategic advantage in the coming election, and assured everyone that Aiyedatiwa’s tenure will benefit all.

In the same vein, Femi Fadairo, youth representative, said: “As the youth representative, I have closely observed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to our state’s progress and the well-being of its citizens. His commitment to youth empowerment, education, and job creation is evident in his policies and actions.

“Under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, we have seen tangible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and opportunities for young people. His inclusive governance approach ensures that the voices of youth are heard and considered in decision-making processes.

“We the youths are confident that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s visionary leadership will continue to propel Ondo State forward, we support his candidacy for another term in office.”

Also, Hon. Stephen Abitogun, a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Akure South Constituency 2, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his appointment of Akure indigenes to significant positions. Specifically, he lauded the appointment of individuals from Akure as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), recognizing their invaluable contributions to his administration.

Responding on behalf of the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Tayo Oluwatuyi (Tuykana), expressed gratitude to the party leaders and commended them for assembling such dedicated party members amidst various distractions.

He said: “We are deeply grateful for the endorsement and unwavering support of the Akure South APC, as conveyed by Chairman Fesobi Akinmolayan. It is an honour to receive such affirmation from our party members and leaders.

“Continuity in governance and the completion of ongoing projects are paramount to ensuring sustained progress for our beloved State. We are committed to upholding these principles and delivering on the promises made to the people of Ondo State.

“We appreciate the confidence placed in Governor Aiyedatiwa and the governor has pledged to continue working tirelessly to improve the lives of all citizens. Together, we will build a better and brighter future for Ondo State.”
