Health: NANNM Gives Fourteen Days Ultimatum To Gov Makinde.

In a bid to avert strike in the health sector, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives , Oyo State Council has given Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State a fourteen days ultimatum to meet their demands and failure to comply the Council would have no choice than to proceed on indefinite strike. In a statement signed by Mr Aina Emmanuel who is the Secretary to the Association and made available to the Exponent Magazine News-Online, the secretary said it has become necessary for the government to meet their demands in order for them to perform uptimally in the line of their duties. His words ” We write to convey the resolution of State Executive Council Meeting of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, (NANNM) Oyo State held on 30th April, 2024 at Nurses House, plot 3 & 4B, Oluyole Estate Ibadan where there was deliberation on various issues affecting welfare and career progression of Nurses working with Oyo State government.
It’s pertinent to note that all this issues has been for a very long time and several letter has been written for the government to come to our aids without positive response. Hence, we would be compelled to commence indefinite strike at the expiration of our ultimatum if the following requests/prayers are not granted.”
According to the information at our disposal, the Nurses are asking for the recruitment of more health workers to complement the activities of the existing Nurses in various Hospitals. In their demands, the secretary said their prayers include among others “Mass recruitment of Nurses and Midwives/Nurse Educator into Hospitals Management Board, Primary Health Care Board, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho and College of Nursing Sciences Eleyele, Ibadan to address the gross shortage of staff to improve health care delivery in the state. Correction of wrong notional date on promotion letter issued to our members Adoption and Implementation of 25% CONHESS adjustment Circular for Nurses and Midwives Working with Oyo State Government” and host of others demands.
Similarly, the Association stated categorically that if their demands are not meant within the stipulated period, they would down tool .”If all the aforementioned prayers are not met within fourteen working days, the State Executive Council of NANNM will have no option than to direct her members to proceed on indefinite strike till when all these demands are met”. NOTIFICATION OF FOURTEEN DAYS (14) ULTIMATUM
The above named Association, an umbrella body of all Nurses and Midwives in Oyo State, hereby writes to once again eulogize the various programmes and activities of the State Government under the dynamic and pragmatic leadership of your Excellency- Engr Oluseyi Makinde in the state health sector. We pray God Almighty continue to endow you and your team with more wisdom and strength to sustain all your good legacies.

(3) Adoption and Implementation of 25% CONHESS adjustment Circular for Nurses and Midwives Working with Oyo State Government (See Annexur I).

(4) Financial implementation of 2018 to 2022 promotion for Nurses and Midwives working in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho
(5) Adoption and Implementation of Enhanced Hazard Allowances for Nurses and Midwives Working in LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomosho, Oyo State College of Nursing Eleyele-Ibadan, Oyo State College of Health Technology Eleyele-Ibadan & Primary Health Care Development Board/ LGA
(6) Adoption and Implementation of lateral conversion/career progression for Nurses and Midwives on GL12 and above that have possessed degree certificate in Nursing Sciences (BNSc) (See Annexur II)
(7) Payment of withheld January/February 2011 salaries to the nurses that are yet to be paid.
(8) Payment of uniform allowance to all Nurses and Midwives in the service of Oyo state in line with public services rule (See Annexure III)
If all the aforementioned prayers are not met within fourteen working days, the State Executive Council of NANNM will have no option than to direct her members to proceed on indefinite strike till when all these demands are met.
