*LET’S PROMOTE OUR CULTURE*- Chief LaCrown Adeyemi

The President of Egbe Omo Yoruba of Greater New York, who doubles as the President of Ikaram Progressive Union (IPU) Worldwide, a Wartime Veteran of the United States Air Force and former Police Officer, with the New York Police Department, Chief (Dr.) Odomode Adeyemi LaCrown has urged both the government and individuals to promote our culture so that it will not go into extinction.

In his welcome address during the final performance of a playlet organized for the primary schools in Akoko North West Local Government, with the theme, “ISE LOOGUN ISE”.

The convener said the reason for the competition is to revive our culture, especially amongst the young generation as it is evident that it is now going into extinction.

He said, ” The reason for the competition is to revive our culture, which is now going into extinction.

The foreign language copied from the Western world is a borrowed language that has affected our language and our culture.

We now think about how we can bring back the culture in which we were known and what can we do to promote the Yoruba language as we do not want our culture to go into the dustbin of history.

Our language and culture speak volumes of our identity. If you see a Hausa going, though a Nigerian, the only way to know him or her is by the identity. Likewise the Yoruba and the Igbos”, he said.

Chief Odomode Adeyemi LaCrown stated further that some of this problem comes from individual homes.

” Some of this problem comes from individual homes. Some parents don’t allow their children to speak their mother tongues. They prefer to speak the borrowed language, which is the English language.

Our job as parents is to allow our children to speak our mother language, and this will promote our culture. ”

He thanked the AOPHON, Akoko North West Local Government area for their support for the success of the Symposium, and promised to provide free school uniforms for all the pupils of the four primary schools that represented the four zones of the local government.

In her earlier speech, the chairman of AOPHON, Akoko North West, Mrs Adeoye thanked everybody for the success of the programme and urged the initiator of the event to continue the good works he has started doing.

The competition witnesses drama from the champions of the four primary school pupils from different zones who qualified for the final stage.

The zone that came first is Okeagbe, Oyin, Afin represented by St Gregory Primary School, Okeagbe, second position, Arigidi, Erusu, Iye zone, represented by Community Primary School, Agbakuku Arigidi, third position, Ogbagi, Irun, Ese zone represented by Salvation Army Mega Primary School, Ogbagi and Ajowa, Ikaram, Igasi, Eriti zone represented by St. Paul’s Primary School, Igedegede, came fourth position.

The week-long program came to an end with a football match between Odomode LaCrown Football Academy and the Living Stars Football Club of Ikare.

LaCrown Academy was the runner-up for two consecutive years until favour smiled at them this year, and they eventually lift the championship cup for the first time this year.

Hurray to the team, which lift the cup for the first time by beating their opponent six goals to two, 6-2.

Earlier before the Ise Loogun Ise playlet performance, a symposium had been organised on Saturday, the 18th of May 2024, on public safety and development.

Speaking at the event, the IPU president, Chief (Dr)
Odomode Adeyemi LaCrown said financial security was needed by Nigeria and Nigerians to support a reasonable standard of living now that it will guarantee a good quality of life in the foreseeable future.

He said that without security in the land, there can be no sustainable economic growth.

Experience teaches that the reverse is also true, as persistent and widespread poverty can undermine the stability of a whole nation. This is the situation in the country now.
