By Olusegun HOSEA. 8th October, 2024.

The proposed Youth National Conference by the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu,, GCFR, president and commander in chief of the Armed forces,  Federal Republic of Nigeria in his national broadcast would soon commence in Abuja. Just before, the action on the subject matter, a youth advocate and communicator expert, Mr  Dotun Ojon in his opinion has advised the Youths to be hopeful of positive deliberation about the proposed Confab. According to him, the conference can give hope for the Youths and would show that government is listing to their yarning and aspirations. Disclosing, this today on a national Radio programme titled: Issues in the Politics at  Adaba 88.9.FM,  Ojon opined that the conference woud be a way of passifying the Youths by gathering them together in order to hear from them and take their diverse opinions into consideration. To him , he believes that the conference would be an opportunity for the Youths to have says about how they wants to be goverred . He said the gathering would also give the Youths the direction about how government is being runned.

Similarly, the issue of the composition of the Delegates that would represent the various groups interest of the youth was still uncertain as it’s possibly believed that the Rulling party would have their partisan people in the conference and this may likely caused a disagreement among the various Delegates that would be chosen to represent the interest of other youths.

To have a robust discussion, the Guest was of the opinion that the whole interest of the nation should be taken into consideration because of the interest of the people who may not be opportune to be in that gathering, because Nigeria is facing a multi dimensional problems now and it seems there was no immediate solution to all those problems and this is the more reasons the proposed Delegates should take passion in discussing issues that affects the generality of the nation for the purpose of proffering solutions.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have been described as the most energetic nation in the world and so, their talents and opinions should be used to addressing germane issue affecting the general public from being under productive must be addressed in this proposed conference if actually the government wants development and progress among them and the nation as a whole.

        2014 Confab Delegates

Recalled that in 20214, a national conference was called by the government of Dr. Ebele Jonathan, Former, president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and was led by Former Justice Idris Kutigi of which the government then have the ample opportunities of implementing the recommendations of the Confab due to the fact that the Rulling party controlled the total population of the House of Representatives and the Red Chamber but they failed due to some reasons that was best known to them and the huge amounts  expended on the Confab then went on drain while some representatives made their fortune from the conference. Therefore, people are now being sceptical about the present proposed national Youth conference of the current government that it would hit the rock just as the 20214 Confab and Oronsanye reports which doesn’t seem to see the light of the day.

But the guest,  Mr Ojon  Dotun still believes that the strategy for the conference would work as conversation is very important if we wants to progress as a nation and that people should see it as a conference that would unite the Youths for consideration. He said that people should believed that the conference would materialize its purpose and resolution due to the fact that this is the first of it’s kind in the history of the nation that a youth would be coming together to brainstorm about the issues affecting them in their country. That if a person have any reasons whatsoever to disbelief the government that is rulling them ,such reason would definitely have effects on such person personal patriotism about the nation. He said the main purpose of the conference should be on how  to see how to have a broader solution to our unemployment and under employment in the nation. While explaining that , other things that is important was for the people to find fulfillment wherever they are or on what they do.

In furtherance, the guest was of the opinion that the selection of the Youths should cut across different categories of the organizations like private sector, public and Religion bodies etc .should be considered for delegate selection to the conference, .Mr Ojon Dotun advised that part of the long time strategy for youth going forward was that education must be given priority. That the curriculum in our schools particularly the basic and secondary schools need to be reviewed or change to accommodate self reliant. He also spoke about the cost of governance which needs to be addressed if actually we wants to move forward as a nation as this to him was one of the reasons why our economy is being affected. The last point of discussion in this angle was that no government can build energetic Youths nation and having a double digit economy if they want to succeed.
