People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain in Akure, Barr. Olumuyiwa Adu on Sunday, 27th November, 2022 received an award for his numerous contributions to the cause of humanity.

He was one of the awardees at 2022 Awards & Lecture organized by Association of Independent Newspapers Publishers, South West Zone and held at the Sunbeth Hotel, Akure.

In his guest lecture,, Dr. Thomas Wilson Ikubese, CMD, SKYE Hospital, spoke on the theme: Credible Election in 2023; Panacea to Stability, Growth and Development tracing the influence of religion, cost of politics among others in attaining credible elections.

He particularly made case for a system where every political office holder uses Nigerian made cars and have their children attend public schools as well as a system of regional government among others in attaining a functional nation.

Responding, Barr. Adu restated the need to attain sustainable system of government.

‘What public office holders spend and get from government is all wasted because they keep spending on stomach infrastructure”

“The Governor should not be the only person controlling the assets of the state. We must cut down the cost of governance. The money that will be wasted on canvassing for election can be diverted into free education and other things that can make life meaningful”

“Nigeria has foundational problem. We cannot get it right untill we place a quadrant on Nigeria’s map and rightly divide the zones”, he added stressing the need to stop talking about state of origin and adopt the principle of state of residence to help knit the fabrics of nationhood.

Barr. Adu who also used the occasion to appreciate the association for the award pledged to continue to support the cause of humanity in all possible ways.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Snr High Chief Segun Adedipe, the Elemo of Akure Kingdom while congratulating all the awardees said the change Nigerians desire starts from individual homes thus, all hands must be on deck to birth a new Nigeria.

Chief Adedipe who said it was quite unfortunate that Nigeria is currently going through a phase where nothing appears credible not even electioneering process, used the occasion to also charge the media to be alive to it duty as the watchdog and not thrive on fake news most especially in the face of the coming election.
