Appeal Court Orders Yahaya Bello to Face Trial in Corruption Case

In a significant development, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has ruled in the case of EFCC vs. Alhaji Yahaya Bello (Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/412/2024), ordering the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to make himself available for trial in a corruption case.

Delivering the judgment, the Court stated, “In view of the provisions of Section 396 (2) ACJA, the Respondent, Yahaya Adoza Bello, should make himself available in Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/550/2022, FRN vs. Ali Bello & Ors before taking any other step in this matter.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed the appeal, challenging the trial court’s judgment, which the EFCC counsel, Ojonimi S. Apeh, Esq, described as “scandalous.”

This ruling means that Governor Bello must now face trial in the corruption case, which has been a subject of controversy. The EFCC has been investigating allegations of financial impropriety against Bello, and this development brings the case closer to resolution.
