By Olusegun HOSEA. 28th September, 2024.
Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner- REC,  Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola has assured the people of the state, particularly, the electorate that their vote would count in the Governorship election slated on the 16th November,2024. She appealed to the electorates not to lose faith in the conduct of election as the commission is trying all their possible best to ensure that every thing regards election would be properly given the necessary attention. She disclosed this with Pressmen during her visit to the members of NUJ , Ondo State council at their Secretariat in Akure . The REC appreciated the NUJ members for given the commission a good reportage via their electioneering coverage and other events of the organization ,even at a very short notice.
According to her, she said ” sometimes they may not know that we are having an event, I will just give them about three to four hours notice even without any form of logistics. Your members are always responded. So we are very grateful for all the services”. She said even with the little remuneration paid by some media organizations to their employees  which was not enough, most Journalists are still rendering their selfless contributions to the development of our dear nation , Ondo State in particular.
Similarly, the REC said  she was in the midst of the NUJ members to let them know that her organization is preparing for the election in the state and that she knew that the men of the pen are also preparing toward the same election. She explained that she prayed that the incoming election in the state would be successful just like that of Edo State .

Explaining further, REC explained that there is no way you could have a successful election without the contribution of the media no matter the high training and seminars given to their members without the input of the media who carried out proper dissemination of Information and educating the people.Such election would not be successful if media professionals are not Carried along.

In another development, Mrs Babalola said she was very glad to be in their midst and that she came just to appreciate and thanked the members of the NUJ for all they had been doing for them so far and to also crave for more. She said her office is always open and that they are very available for the press to have a good relationship with them in order to have a perfect election. She said they have already made adequate preparation to ensure that the Centre for election would opened early as they don’t wants people to come and stayed on queue for a long period of hours.

In his contributions, the chairman of NUJ , Prince Leke Adegbite said the Ondo State NUJ, expressed the willingness of his colleagues and media organisations to sustain their support for INEC and other stakeholders to deliver free, fair and peaceful governorship election in Ondo state.Adegbite encouraged INEC to ensure free flow of information before, during and after the November 16 election, while the commission should ensure credible media Accreditation and Training for the polls.
