Africa International Human Rights Film Festival Announces its 3rd Edition, Celebrating “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now!”

The Africa International Human Rights Film Festival (AIHRFF) is thrilled to announce the 3rd edition of its transformative event. This year’s festival, organized in partnership with the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nigeria, coincides with International Human Rights Day, celebrated globally to honor and advance human rights advocacy.

Under the theme “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now!”, the festival promises an engaging platform for conversations, collaborations, and creative expressions that advance social justice and equity through the power of film.

AIHRFF has become a global hub for advocacy, receiving film submissions from 34 countries, including Nigeria, the United States, South Africa, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. This diversity reflects the universal appeal of using film as a medium to address critical issues such as gender equality, digital rights, environmental advocacy, and social justice.

A significant highlight of this year’s festival is the African Women in Filmmaking Panel, which celebrates the vital contributions of women filmmakers across the continent. Renowned creatives Damilola Ajele and Vicky Patterson will lead an engaging discussion, sharing their experiences in navigating the film industry while using their craft to champion social justice.

Empowering Creatives Through Masterclasses

In addition to powerful film screenings, the festival will feature hands-on masterclasses designed to empower filmmakers and storytellers:

Storytelling Masterclass: Facilitated by celebrated Nigerian filmmaker Richard Omos Oboyi, this session will guide participants in crafting compelling narratives for advocacy.

Animation Masterclass: Led by Adetunwase Adele, a four-time Guinness World Record holder, this masterclass will inspire participants to leverage animation in driving creative storytelling and change.

AIHRFF goes beyond film screenings, offering interactive workshops, thought-provoking panel discussions, and opportunities for dialogue between filmmakers, human rights advocates, and audiences. These sessions are designed to spark meaningful conversations and collaborations, fostering a shared vision for promoting and protecting human rights worldwide.

“The Africa International Human Rights Film Festival is not just an event—it is a movement,” said Kehinde Adegboyega, Festival Director. “As we commemorate International Human Rights Day under the theme Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now!, we are reminded of the urgent need for collective action to address critical global issues. This festival provides a space to reflect, engage, and inspire change through the power of storytelling.”
