GOV AIYEDATIWA MOURNS DEATH OF ONDO’S FIRST MILITARY ADMINISTRATOR, ITA DAVID IKPEME

The Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has paid tributes to the first Military Administrator of the State, Group Captain Ita David Ikpeme (rtd), CON, who has died after a brief illness.

Ikpeme, then as a Wing Commander, served as the first Governor of Ondo State after it was carved out of the old Western State during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo on February 3, 1976.

The death of the retired airforce captain, at the age of 89, was communicated to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday by the family in a letter signed by Iquo Ikpeme.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, who extended his condolences to the family, acknowledged the extraordinary roles played by Ikpeme in laying the foundation for the development of the State between 1976 and 1978.

He described the late Ikpeme as a distinguished statesman, a devoted leader and administrator, and a pillar of his native community in Calabar, Cross River State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said the people of Ondo State will continue to remember the legacy of Ikpeme through his significant contributions to the development of the State as the pioneer leader.

The Governor prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and for strength and solace for his loved ones as they navigate through this period of mourning.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said the state government will offer the needed support to the family to give late Ikpeme a befitting burial.
