Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State. She passed away on January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born on December 2, 1965, Rep. Onanuga was a dedicated public servant and a passionate advocate for her community. She was first elected to the House in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), where she served as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development in the 9th Assembly, championing policies to empower women and improve social welfare.
Re-elected in 2023, Rep. Onanuga was appointed Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly, where she earned respect for her exceptional leadership and commitment to maintaining legislative order, particularly during parliamentary sittings.
Affectionately known as ‘Ijaya,’ her intelligence, humility, and drive for excellence left a lasting impact on her colleagues and constituents. Her contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape reflected her deep commitment to creating a better society and her tireless dedication to public service.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, the Government and People of Ogun State—especially the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency—and the entire National Assembly.
