House of Representatives Releases Order Paper for February 13, 2025 Sitting

Abuja, Nigeria | Thursday, February 13, 2025 – The House of Representatives is set to deliberate on a range of important legislative issues in today’s plenary session, as outlined in the Order Paper. The agenda includes several key bills, motions, and committee reports focused on governance and national development.

Among the key matters for consideration is the presentation of the Conference Committee Report on the Bill to Prohibit the Exportation of Maize in Large Commercial Quantities, which will be laid by Rep. Babajimi Benson.

The House will also conduct the Second Reading of several bills, including:

1. The Central Gaming Bill (sponsored by Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu and six others), seeking to repeal the National Lottery Acts and regulate all forms of online and remote gaming.

2. A Bill to amend the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act to establish the Federal College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in Tallase, Gombe State.

3. A Bill to establish Kofa, Bebeji Entrepreneurs University in Kano, which aims to provide comprehensive management and administration for the institution.

4. A Constitutional Amendment Bill (sponsored by Rep. Wole Oke) proposing the creation of three additional states: Oke-Ogun, Ijebu, and Ife-Ijesa.

5. A Bill to establish Lower Courts in the Federal Capital Territory, detailing their jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters.

6. An amendment to the National Agricultural Development Fund Act, 2022 to enhance agricultural financing.

The House will also consider several motions, including:

Rescission of Clause 14(2) of the South West Development Commission Bill to align it with federal policies (Rep. Francis E. Waive).

Investigation into Alleged Fraudulent Practices in contractor payments by officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant-General’s Office (Rep. Paul Nnamchi, Rt. Hon. Julius Ihonvbere, and Rep. Aminu Sani Jaji).

Scrutiny of Budgetary Allocations to Research Institutes from 2010 to date, to assess utilization and impact on national development (Rep. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba).

Call for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to clear outstanding contract debts, due to reports of financial hardship among contractors (Rep. Pascal Agbodike).

Additionally, several Committee Meetings are scheduled, including sessions on Rules and Business, Public Petitions, and the North West Development Commission.
