By Exponent News Akure,17th February,2025.

Akure, Ondo State – February 17, 2025 – In a historic event marking the return of democratic governance to local councils in Ondo State, Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa swore in the newly elected chairmen and vice-chairmen for the state’s 18 local government areas. The ceremony, held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome) in Akure, celebrated the people’s decisive choice during the local government elections on January 18, 2025.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ondo State for their overwhelming support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in electing 18 chairmen and 203 councilors. In his address, he emphasized the importance of the oath of office, urging the newly elected leaders to prioritize integrity, transparency, and service to the people. “The trust and confidence placed in you is a solemn responsibility to serve the people with dedication,” he told the newly sworn officials.

The Governor also outlined the state’s ambitious development agenda, “O’ Datiwa, O’ Dirorun” (“Our Ease”), which focuses on key pillars such as security, healthcare, education, infrastructural development, and socio-economic welfare. Aiyedatiwa urged the local government leaders to work hand-in-hand with the state administration to deliver tangible benefits at the grassroots level, ensuring that every citizen has access to quality services and opportunities for growth.

He further hailed the successful conduct of the local government elections, commending the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) for its professionalism and transparency. Security agencies, election monitors, and the opposition parties were also recognized for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible process.

The Governor concluded his speech by congratulating the new leaders, wishing them success in their tenure, and encouraging them to remain focused on the collective goal of progress and prosperity for Ondo State.
