The International Culture and Events Centre, also known as the DOME, in Alagbaka, Akure, was the venue where women of all calibers gathered to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day in recognition of the significant roles women play in nation-building and the global commitment to advancing women’s causes in all spheres of life.

Dr. Seun Osamaye, a Special Adviser to the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, engaged with the press on the importance of this celebration both in the state and worldwide. She explained that women play a very significant role in the home and in nation-building. Therefore, it is essential to celebrate them globally. Her remarks resonated with a powerful message advocating for the advancement of women in nation-building.

She encouraged all women in Ondo State to rally around and continue supporting the current government. Dr. Osamaye also expressed her appreciation to the Governor for his commitment to addressing the plight of women. She recalled his campaign promise to support women, a promise he has kept by giving them special attention and providing grants to enhance the businesses of 1,000 women in the state.

Dr. Osamaye reiterated, “The governor promised that women would benefit from the government without having to lobby or work excessively to receive the dividends of democracy, and today, we are witnessing it. Within two weeks of being sworn in as the 7th Executive Governor of the state, he has taken action. Today, 1,000 women from various categories across the state have been empowered with a cash grant of thirty-five thousand naira each.” Expressing her satisfaction and joy, Dr. Osamaye emphasized that women were not discriminated against, as the grants were distributed across various professions. She also mentioned that some of these women had already started receiving alerts, despite it being the weekend.

She thanked the Governor for truly renewing the hope of women in the state.

Similarly, Dr. Osamaye encouraged the women to continue giving their necessary support to the state government, as they now have a government that is willing to change the narrative. She pointed out that, in the past, government benefits were mostly for the privileged, but now, one can enjoy the government’s support without knowing anyone in power. She thanked the government for its unprecedented kindness toward women and assured that women would continue to support the administration.

Speaking further, Osamaye explained that March 8th is a day set aside globally for women to come together to celebrate stakeholders who advance the cause of women. It is also a day to appeal to these stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives that promote women’s economic, social, and welfare advancement. She emphasized that this year’s activities were unique as they took accelerated action toward decisive steps to support women. Dr. Osamaye expressed her gratitude to the government for their ongoing support of women in the state.
