
Governor Aiyedatiwa Appoints Olowo as Chairman of Ondo State Council of Obas
Monarchs Commend Governor for Developmental Strides
Akure, Ondo State – Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the appointment of the Olowo of Owo, Oba (Dr.) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II, as the new Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The announcement was made on Thursday at a special meeting of the Council held at the Obas’ Secretariat in Akure, marking the completion of the tenure of the outgoing Chairman, the Deji of Akure, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundun II.
In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the outgoing chairman for his leadership, highlighting his contributions to the state’s development.
“It is imperative to commend His Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Adelusi, Odundun II, for providing transformative leadership over the last two years. You have demonstrated capacity, love, and ingenuity in handling matters affecting the state. I thank you for your selfless service and unwavering dedication,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
The governor also reflected on his administration’s achievements under the outgoing Council, including the resolution of long-standing chieftaincy disputes and the implementation of the Ondo State White Paper on the Hon. Justice C.E.T. Ajama Judicial Commission of Inquiry. He highlighted the elevation of many existing stools, the recognition of minor chieftaincies, and the abolition of the Grade ‘D’ Obas category, which automatically upgraded all affected traditional rulers to Grade ‘C’.
Aiyedatiwa further noted the successful implementation of the 5% statutory allocation of local government funds to traditional rulers, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to supporting the monarchs. He also celebrated the completion of the Ondo State Council of Obas’ Secretariat, describing it as a significant milestone for the traditional institution.

Announcing the dissolution of the 11th Council, the governor inaugurated the 12th Council with Oba Ogunoye II as its new chairman.
“On this note, I hereby dissolve the 11th Council of Obas in Ondo State. I also announce my approval of the 12th Council under the Chairmanship of His Imperial Majesty, the Olowo of Owo, Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye II,” he declared.
In his farewell remarks, the Deji of Akure expressed gratitude to the governor for his unprecedented support for traditional rulers and urged him to extend the same cooperation to the new Council leadership.
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Chairman, Oba Ogunoye II, thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for the trust placed in him. He pledged to strengthen the relationship between the Council and the government while acknowledging the governor’s leadership style and developmental achievements.
Special prayers were offered for the governor by the Ahaba of Ajagba, Oba Oluwole Adesayo, who commended Aiyedatiwa’s strides in infrastructure, youth employment, and legislative constituency projects.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; and Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Comrade Bola Taiwo.
