Poroye Olamide Emerges as Speaker of Revived Children’s Parliament in Akure

By Exponent News, Akure | May 27, 2025

In a remarkable display of youthful leadership, Poroye Olamide has been inaugurated as the Speaker of the Children’s Parliament in Akure as part of the 2025 National Children’s Day celebration. The event also marked the official revival of the Ondo State Children’s Parliament, which had remained dormant for over 12 years.

In her inaugural speech, Speaker Olamide expressed deep gratitude to God and commended the political will of the Governor of the Sunshine State, His Excellency, DR. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa,  for his commitment to children’s development and the rejuvenation of the Parliament.

She also lauded the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, led by Dr. Seun Bosede Osamaye, and the State Save the Children’s International for their supportive roles in making the event and parliament revival a success. “Your support has been instrumental in bringing the vision of the Governor to life,” Olamide stated.

Appreciating the dignitaries, parents, chaperones, and service providers in attendance, she noted that their presence added immense value to the Children’s Day celebration and the reconstitution of the parliament.

Addressing the Governor directly, Olamide reaffirmed the children’s confidence in her leadership,(Osamaye)calling her a true stateswoman and a parental figure. She then made an appeal on behalf of the young parliamentarians for continued support to enhance the effectiveness of the revived body.

Among the key requests were capacity building programs that provide mentorship and leadership training, access to smart devices like laptops and smartphones to facilitate communication, and support for improved data management to boost productivity and ensure security.

She further appealed for adequate funding and the creation of child-friendly public spaces that promote social interaction and a sense of belonging for children.

“To whom much is given, and much is expected. We, the children of Ondo State, promise to grow into patriotic and responsible citizens,” she concluded, extending appreciation to all parents and wishing everyone a safe journey back home. The celebration was a milestone for child advocacy in the state and signaled a new chapter in inclusive governance that gives voice to the younger generation.
