Aiyedatiwa Marks 100 Days with Major Road Project, Launches Igbokoda–Okitipupa Dualization

In a bold move to accelerate economic development and improve infrastructure, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has flagged off the dualization of the 27.5km Igbokoda–Okitipupa road. The ceremony, held in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area, was part of events marking the Governor’s first 100 days in office.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the project as a strategic step toward unlocking the vast economic potential of the state’s coastal corridor, with particular emphasis on the proposed Ondo Deep Seaport. He emphasized that the road’s dualization aligns with the federal vision for Marine and Blue Economy development and is critical to the state’s long-term growth.

“This project is more than an infrastructure upgrade—it’s a foundational element in our plan to position Ondo as a vital hub in Nigeria’s maritime future,” the Governor stated. “We are not merely responding to future challenges; we are anticipating them and taking proactive steps today.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to create an investment-friendly environment that supports both private sector growth and public welfare. The road, which links Igbokoda to Okitipupa, is expected to enhance connectivity within the Southern Senatorial District and serve as a key access route to the upcoming deep seaport.

“This dualization initiative reflects our commitment to the promises made to our people during the campaign,” he added.

Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, provided technical details of the project, highlighting its 27.5-kilometre stretch, 9.3-metre carriageway, and a comprehensive drainage system with over 10,000 metres of hydraulic structures. He added that the road design includes walkways and setbacks to ensure safety and future expansion.

Chairmen of Ilaje and Okitipupa LGAs, Maurice Oripenaye and Andrew Ogunsakin, along with key traditional rulers including the Abodi of Ikale, Oba Babatunde Faduyile, and the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom, Oba Segun Akinyomi, praised the Governor for his focus on transformative projects in the region.

The project contractor, Mr. Abdul Gorey, assured the community of timely and high-quality delivery.

Also in attendance were Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the State Assembly Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, and Head of Service Mr. Bayo Philips.

The Igbokoda–Okitipupa road dualization stands as one of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s flagship infrastructure undertakings, reinforcing his governance approach centered on inclusive development, improved mobility, and enhanced quality of life for Ondo State residents.
