The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has congratulated Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe on receiving a patent certificate for her innovative research invention, Automated Parkia Extract Production Device, from the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Dr. Oluwamodupe developed the device alongside Adesola Oluwaseun Adeleye, both from the Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Research Unit, Department of Biochemistry, School of Science, OAUSTECH.

The patent certificate, dated May 26, 2025, and signed by Registrar Jane Igwe, grants Dr. Oluwamodupe and her colleague exclusive rights to their invention for 20 years, starting from May 26, 2025. The certificate reads: “For the sole use and advantage of an invention for: Automated Parkia Extract Production Device.”

Dr. Oluwamodupe is an esteemed academic leader, currently serving as the Acting Dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences and Acting Director of the Olusegun Agagu University Leadership Academy.

Her research focuses on pharmaceutical Biochemistry targeting metabolic diseases, erectile dysfunction and cancer treatment with notable achievements including: published over 40 research articles in leading international journals, recipient of prestigious international awards and grants, including Science Granting Council grant, UNESCO/DBT-TWAS, once discovered a bioactive constituent that regenerates damaged pancreatic islet cells in type 1 diabetic model mice, and recognized as the best scientist of the year 2021 by AD scientists world ranking in OAUSTECH.

Dr. Oluwamodupe ascribed her success to God and the Vice-Chancellor for providing an environment conducive for research and learning, saying it is her contribution to help humanity.

“This invention took me six years to achieve. It is poised to help in the production of extracts from natural sources for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical purposes,” she revealed.

The university community rejoices in Dr. Oluwamodupe’s remarkable achievement, which underscores OAUSTECH’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation and research excellence. Dr. Oluwamodupe’s relentless dedication to the advancement of knowledge and innovation serves as a profound inspiration to her colleagues and students alike, and her contributions to the university’s research and academic pursuits are truly invaluable.

The community also celebrates Dr. Cecilia’s accomplishments eagerly anticipates further groundbreaking research from her. This achievement further exemplifies OAUSTECH’s dedication to promoting innovation and academic excellence.

Speaking, Dean of the School of Science and Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Academic Directors, Prof. Soji Fakoya, commended her for her tenacity of purpose and commitment to research which led to the breakthrough of the patented invention.

In the same vein, OAUSTECH’s Director of Academic Planning, Prof Foluso Adetuyi, maintained that Oluwamodupe is a top-notch researcher who blends theory with practice to contribute to both knowledge generation and practical applications to solve societal problems, commending her for blazing the trail.

Also, Director of Research, Innovation and Development at OAUSTECH, Prof. Ilemobayo Oguntimehin, stated that her excellent performance stems from practical experience in the laboratory and devotion to continuous learning and research. “I’m proud to be associated with her.

Ms. Winifred Olayemi Akinwumi, who holds an MSc from OAUSTECH and was supervised by Oluwamodupe to obtain the degree, praised her supervisor for mentoring supervised by Oluwamodupe usually gain admission to research universities in the US and Canada.
