GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA FLAGS OFF ₦1.2BN CASH TRANSFER FOR OVER 16,000 VULNERABLE RESIDENTS IN ONDO STATE

More than 16,000 vulnerable residents across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State will receive ₦75,000 each through personalised debit cards. According to the statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, he said  Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Friday launched the second phase of the Federal Government’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme in the state — a massive ₦1.2 billion social investment aimed at economic relief for the poorest households.

Speaking at the official flag-off held at the Akure South Local Government Secretariat, the Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to social inclusion and economic empowerment through sustained collaboration with the Federal Government.

> “Today, we take yet another bold step in our ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of our people and fulfilling the promise of Renewed Hope,” Aiyedatiwa declared while distributing the Renewed Hope Debit Cards to beneficiaries.

Each recipient will get ₦25,000 monthly for three months, totalling ₦75,000 per household. The disbursement is part of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) coordinated by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) in partnership with the Ondo State Government.

Governor Aiyedatiwa revealed that the programme will inject ₦1,219,125,000 into the state’s grassroots economy. This builds on the November 2024 phase, which saw 8,637 residents receive a total of ₦647,775,000.

He reaffirmed his administration’s drive to expand the state’s social register to ensure that no vulnerable household is left behind, while expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for sustaining the intervention.

Also present at the event, Mr. Alonge Felix Kolawole, SSA to the Governor on Social Investment, praised the transparent, community-driven selection process, while NOA State Director, Mr. James Adekunle, lauded Ondo State as a pacesetter in implementing the Renewed Hope agenda.

Other dignitaries included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi; the Chairman of Akure South, Hon. Gbenga Fasua; and several lawmakers, traditional rulers, and community leaders.

One of the beneficiaries, Falaye Emmanuel, expressed gratitude, calling the assistance “timely” and “a great relief” for his struggling household.

With this launch, Ondo becomes the third state in Nigeria to fully implement the new phase of the national Conditional Cash Transfer scheme.
