Over 1,000 Stakeholders Rally Behind CP Afolabi as Ondo Command Steps Up War Against Cultism and Crime
In a decisive move to stem the tide of cult-related violence, the Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, convened a powerful Community Safety Partnership meeting in Ondo City. The initiative comes in direct response to a recent surge in cult supremacy clashes and reaffirms the Command’s dedication to people-friendly and community-centered policing — a core tenet championed by the Inspector General of Police.
Quoting the IGP’s guiding philosophy — “an untrained police officer is both a danger to himself and the public he is sworn to protect” — CP Afolabi reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against cultism, drug trafficking, and illegal firearms. He issued a stern directive to officers to intensify crackdowns on individuals who hide behind cultist networks to perpetrate criminal acts.
The forum, which attracted over 1,000 participants, featured traditional rulers, local government chairmen, industry leaders, and community-based organizations, including the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) and the Eagle Crime Awareness Prevention Initiative (E-CAPI).
Significantly, CP Afolabi highlighted the recent arrest and prosecution of nine cult-related suspects, made possible through diligent investigations and credible evidence. He also outlined the Command’s recent strides in capacity building, including targeted training in Crime Mapping, Investigations, and Intelligence Gathering.
Ethnic and transport unions, community groups, and youth leaders present at the event applauded the Command’s swift response to the ongoing crisis and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement efforts. In a united front, stakeholders committed to sharing timely intelligence to aid the fight against insecurity.
The Ondo State Police Command reaffirmed its unshakable resolve to safeguard lives and property across the state and called on citizens to continue partnering with the police to ensure lasting peace and security
