POLICE ARREST TWO ARMED SUSPECTS ON USO EXPRESSWAY

Two suspected armed individuals have been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command following a routine stop-and-search operation along the Uso Expressway, as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and safeguard lives and property across the state.

The arrest occurred when operatives attached to the Highway Patrol Team intercepted a motorcycle during the operation. Police sources disclosed that upon noticing the presence of security personnel, the rider abandoned his two passengers and fled the scene with the motorcycle, leaving the passengers behind.

The two abandoned passengers were immediately apprehended by the operatives. They were later identified as Daniel, 22, and Jamiyu, 27, both males. A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a black bag containing a cut-to-size single-barrel firearm.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects are currently in custody and have made useful statements to investigators. Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing motorcyclist, while further investigations are being carried out to establish the source and intended purpose of the recovered firearm. The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the operatives for their swift and professional response, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, emphasized that intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations remain a critical tool in disrupting criminal networks and preventing the spread of illegal arms. He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.

To strengthen security measures, the Commissioner has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders to sustain heightened vigilance and proactive policing across all parts of the state, particularly during and beyond the festive period.

The Ondo State Police Command also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with police operatives during security checks and to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or objects to the nearest police station or security post, stressing that public support is vital to effective policing.

The Command further expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his strategic leadership and continued support through reforms and technological initiatives aimed at enhancing efficient and responsive policing nationwide.
