In a bid to reform Nigeria’s public service and deepen citizen participation in governance, the House of Representatives has announced a public hearing through its Committee on Public Service Matters. The hearing, scheduled for Friday, June 27, 2025, will address key legislative proposals and motions aimed at improving institutional efficiency, accountability, and service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

According to an official statement issued by the Office of the House Spokesman, the public hearing will take place at Room 028, New Building, House of Representatives Wing, National Assembly Complex, Abuja, starting at 9:00 AM.

Among the bills and motions to be deliberated upon are:

1. Widowhood Leave Bill, 2024 (HB. 401)

2. National Assembly Service Bill, 2025 (HB. 2056)

3. National Assembly Service Pension Board (Establishment) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (HB. 2240)

4. Motion on the Need to Abrogate the FG Policy on Compulsory Retirement of Directors After Eight Years in MDAs (HR. 30/07/2024)

5. Motion on the Stagnation of Promotion in the Federal Civil Service (HR. 08/07/2024)

6. Motion on Investigating and Prosecuting Age Falsification in the Civil Service (HR. 181/11/2024)

Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Sani Umar Bala, ANFCEN, FCIPEN, underscored the importance of public input in shaping reforms that reflect equity, merit, and professionalism.

“This Public Hearing provides a crucial platform for public servants, legal experts, civil society organisations, and citizens to engage constructively with the legislative process,” Bala said. “The House remains focused on reforms that uphold transparency, fairness, and professionalism in public service.”

He affirmed that the engagement aligns with the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House of Representatives, which is grounded in transparency, inclusiveness, and citizen-responsive lawmaking.

The House has therefore called on members of the public, stakeholders, and the media to participate actively in the hearing, as part of efforts to promote democratic governance and accountability in Nigeria’s civil administration.
