By Exponent News, Lagos – July 20, 2025

Nine Chinese nationals have been convicted and sentenced by two separate Federal High Courts sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, for their involvement in cyber-terrorism and internet-related fraud.

The convictions were secured by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, July 18, 2025, before Justices Chukwuemeka Aneke and Dehinde Dipeolu.

The convicted individuals are: Deng Wen Quang, Lin Jin, Shi Yang Xiong, Lu Yong Yao, Yang Chen Cheng, Feng Li Cai, Li Niue, Li Kuang Kuang, and Dan Jia (also known as Bu Fan).

According to the EFCC, the Chinese nationals were found guilty of engaging in various forms of cybercrime that posed a threat to national security and global digital infrastructure. The Commission disclosed that the convictions followed thorough investigations and diligent prosecution.

While specific details of the sentencing and charges were still emerging at press time, EFCC sources confirmed that the convicts were involved in sophisticated cyber schemes targeting individuals and institutions across borders.

The convictions mark a significant step in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against transnational cybercrime and underline the country’s commitment to protecting its digital space and upholding international cybersecurity standards.

Further details on the case, including sentencing terms and modes of operation, are expected to be released in an official statement by the EFCC.
