Tragic: Another AAU Student Murdered

By Exponent News, Akure, 26th July,2025

A student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), has been brutally murdered by her boyfriend, just weeks after the killings of two other undergraduates.

The latest victim, identified as Joy Adeyemi from the Department of Human Kinetics, was found dead under suspicious circumstances, sparking widespread protests within the university community.

Previously, two students — Andrel Okah from the Department of History and International Studies, and John Abba from the Department of Economics — were abducted and killed. While police made several arrests related to those cases, the prime suspect, who was John Abba’s landlord, reportedly died mysteriously in custody.

Joy Adeyemi was allegedly murdered on Tuesday by her boyfriend, who has since fled the community. Concerned neighbors alerted authorities after perceiving a foul odor coming from the suspect’s room, where Joy’s decomposing body was discovered.

A source said, “The alleged killer is said to be an indigene of the town. Joy operated a POS business nearby, and her sudden disappearance went unnoticed until the stench from the room raised suspicion.” It was also reported that the suspect made away with funds from her business.

Angry students took to the streets in protest, chanting slogans such as “Say no to students’ killings” and demanding urgent government action to protect students in Akungba.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, strongly condemned the murder, describing the wave of violence in the university as “deeply appalling.” The association called for immediate intervention by security agencies to curb the rising insecurity.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect is currently on the run but is being actively pursued by police operatives.

He added that three suspects have been arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation in connection with the case.
