CP ADEBOWALE LAWAL BRIEFS INSPECTORS AND RANK & FILE ON IGP’S EFFORTS TOWARDS POLICE PENSION REFORM

In continuation of the sensitization lecture held on Thursday, 31st July 2025, with senior officers of the Ondo State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, on Monday, 4th August 2025, held a follow-up briefing with officers of the Inspectorate and Rank & File.

During the session, CP Lawal conveyed the message of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, regarding ongoing efforts to exit the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). He disclosed that the IGP has formally communicated with relevant government authorities to present the Nigeria Police Force’s collective position on this matter. Furthermore, the IGP is taking concrete, strategic steps, including high-level engagements and sustained follow-ups, to accelerate the process.

The briefing, held at the Officers’ Mess, Akure, was attended by representatives from the 54 Divisions, 8 Area Commands, Tactical Teams, and Specialized Units such as the Special Protection Unit (SPU) and Mobile Police Force (MOPOL).

Relaying the IGP’s message, CP Lawal expressed the Inspector-General’s profound appreciation to the officers of the Inspectorate and Rank & File for their unwavering dedication, resilience, and pivotal role in frontline policing. The IGP emphasized that these officers are the “foot soldiers” who shoulder the core responsibilities of ensuring peace, safety, and security across the state and nation.

CP Lawal further informed the personnel that, as part of the IGP’s welfare-focused leadership, the promotion of officers and men across all ranks has been approved and is being actively pursued. He assured them that the promotion exercise is in process and will soon be concluded as part of broader welfare reforms.

He urged all officers to remain steadfast and committed to their duties while disseminating the update to their colleagues, including retired personnel, to ensure widespread awareness of the ongoing developments.

A key highlight of the session was an interactive segment where officers raised concerns about pension matters and received clarifications. Additionally, there was a brief discourse on financial intelligence and personal money management aimed at promoting financial discipline and preparedness among personnel.

CP Lawal concluded by commending the officers for their unwavering dedication and reiterated the Ondo State Police Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the well-being of its personnel, in alignment with the welfare-driven vision of the IGP.
