SPEAKER ABBAS MOURNS FORMER MINISTER,  AUDU OGBEH

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has expressed deep shock over the death of elder statesman and former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, describing him as a patriotic Nigerian who dedicated his life to national service.

Ogbeh, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 78, was a former chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and a political figure whose career spanned the Second, Third, and Fourth Republics.

In a condolence statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas hailed Ogbeh’s decades-long contributions to Nigeria in both the Executive and Legislative arms of government.

From serving as Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly in 1979, to holding ministerial portfolios in Communications, Steel Development, and Agriculture, Ogbeh played pivotal roles in various administrations. He was also a founding member and national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between 2001 and 2005, and chaired the ACF from 2020 to 2023.

Speaker Abbas extended his condolences to the Ogbeh family, the people and government of Benue State, as well as colleagues in the parliament and federal cabinets where Ogbeh served. He prayed for the repose of his soul.
