ONDO POLICE ARREST CYBER FRAUDSTER BEHIND FAKE POLICE ACADEMY ADMISSION RACKET

Admin. 5ft September,2025.

The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered a major cybercrime network after arresting a suspected fraudster who allegedly duped hundreds of admission seekers through fake platforms claiming affiliation with the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Command confirmed the arrest of one Samson Olamilekan Owolade, a resident of Ipogun in Akure, for offences bordering on cyber fraud, defamation, and attempts to incite disaffection against the Nigeria Police Academy and its cadets.

According to the Police, the suspect had been on the radar of security agencies following intelligence reports linking him and his accomplices to online admission rackets. These groups were said to be extorting unsuspecting applicants by issuing fake advertisements and creating platforms disguised as official admission channels.

Operatives of the Cybercrime Unit swung into action after receiving a report, and within an hour, Owolade was tracked and apprehended. The suspect has since made a confessional video statement, admitting his involvement in the crime.

Investigations revealed that Owolade created a WhatsApp group named “NPA RC12 Guide and Updates” with over 370 members, out of which at least 100 aspiring applicants had fallen victim. He was also linked to the Facebook page “POLAC UPDATES GROUP”, used to spread false information and damage the image of the Academy and the Nigeria Police Force.

Items recovered from the suspect included several mobile phones, laptop computers, routers, Wi-Fi devices, and multiple SIM cards believed to have been deployed in carrying out the fraudulent activities.

The Police stated that the case would be transferred to the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, for further investigation and prosecution.

Reiterating its zero tolerance for cybercrime, the Force assured the public that it would continue to safeguard the integrity of the Academy and protect the dreams of young Nigerians seeking to serve through merit-based admission.

Meanwhile, the Command has issued a strong advisory to parents, guardians, and prospective applicants, warning them against patronizing individuals or groups claiming to guarantee admission into the Academy. It emphasized that admission processes remain strictly merit-driven and conducted only through official Police Academy channels.
