Federal Workers Demand Payment of ₦105,000 Wage Arrears, Threaten Industrial Action Over Soaring Inflation
Admin. 9th September, 2025
Tension is mounting between the Federal Government and its workers as unions issue an ultimatum demanding the immediate payment of the outstanding ₦105,000 wage award balance. The workers have warned that failure to settle the arrears promptly will trigger a showdown in the form of mass industrial action.
Expressing deep frustration, the workforce described the current situation as “unbearable,” highlighting that the recently approved ₦70,000 minimum wage is insufficient amid soaring inflation. They called for an urgent review of the wage to reflect the rising cost of living, which has severely diminished the purchasing power of their salaries.
Union leaders emphasized that unless the government acts swiftly to pay the arrears and adjust the wage structure, a nationwide strike could be imminent, threatening significant disruption to public services.
