Impersonation: Fake Army Colonel Arrested Over Multiple Crimes

The Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc+, mnips, has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and fraud within the state.

Following a detailed investigation, operatives of the Command arrested one Abdullahi Saliu, a male resident of Top Quality Hotel, who had been posing as a Colonel in the Nigerian Army. The suspect allegedly defrauded two unsuspecting victims, Oshoade Janet (female) and Daisi Remilekun Joy (female), under the false promise of securing employment for their sons in the Nigeria Customs and Immigration Services.

Through this fraudulent scheme, the suspect obtained a total sum of ₦1,377,000 (One Million, Three Hundred and Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira), which he converted to his personal use.

Further investigations revealed that Saliu’s criminal activities extended across state lines, with victims traced to Edo, Delta, Kogi, and Ondo States. He has long been on the Command’s watchlist as a notorious job racketeer, known for impersonating high-ranking officers across multiple security agencies.

His deceptive roles have included posing as a Colonel in the Army, a Naval Officer, and a senior official in the Immigration and Customs Services, all with the intent of defrauding unsuspecting citizens of their hard-earned money.

The suspect has since been arraigned before Magistrate Court 1 for proper prosecution.

This arrest marks yet another success in the Ondo State Police Command’s ongoing crackdown on fraud and criminal impersonation. The Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents and ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice.

The Command also acknowledges and appreciates the strategic leadership and support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, whose guidance continues to drive operational success across commands nationwide.
