Pay the Remaining Wage Award Now — Or We’ll Storm Your Office,” Federal Workers Tell AGF

Federal workers under the organised platform of the Federal Workers Forum have issued a fresh ultimatum to the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), saying they will stage a mass demonstration — including a planned march on the AGF’s Abuja office — unless the government immediately clears outstanding wage-award arrears.

The Forum says the demand covers unpaid months of the N35,000 monthly wage award and other consequential adjustments promised after last year’s negotiations. Members accuse the Office of the Accountant-General of failing to fully implement earlier assurances that arrears would be paid “immediately, and warn that patience is exhausted.

The AGF’s office has previously confirmed plans to disburse the wage-award arrears in instalments and the federal government began phased payments earlier in the year — but unions say the rollout has been partial and slow, leaving many civil servants still owed several months of back pay.

Labour observers warn that a large-scale protest by federal workers would disrupt key public services and could sharpen tensions between organised labour and the government unless a clear, time-bound payment plan is tabled and honoured. The Forum has given the AGF a short window to act, saying further delay will trigger “escalatory measures” across ministries and agencies.
