Tensions Rise in Ondo PDP as Chieftain Raises Concern Over Party Loyalty

Admin .18th September, 2025

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Hon. Leye Igbabo, has raised concerns over what he described as questionable political alliances and also, alleged actions taken by a national officer of the party, Hon. Engr. Clement Faboyede.

In a petition submitted to the PDP Elders Committee, chaired by Dr. Tayo Dairo, Igbabo alleged that Engr. Faboyede has been engaging with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, in ways that he believes undermine the unity and strength of the PDP in Ondo.

According to Igbabo, such interactions—particularly during sensitive political periods—are setting what he called a “dangerous precedent” for party discipline and loyalty. He pointed to past instances, including the 2023 senatorial primaries, where he claims external influence played a significant role in internal party affairs.

He also referenced a campaign event in Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency, where Faboyede allegedly advised PDP leaders to vacate the venue under the pretext of an impending APC crackdown—an act Igbabo believes was intended to avoid confrontation with APC stakeholders.

“The leader is actually setting a dangerous precedent which, if not addressed, may be followed by others,” Igbabo said. “The implication is the erosion of party loyalty, as others could take cues from this and justify cross-party engagements.”

He further warned that such developments could mirror what he called the “Wike Evolution Theory of Amphibious Political Partisanship,” referring to the tendency of some politicians to operate across party lines.

Igbabo has called on the Elders Committee to review the matter and advise the appropriate organs of the party to take steps that will reinforce internal discipline and protect the integrity of the PDP ahead of the coming elections.
