The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), under the leadership of Comrade Yusuf Abiodun, held its Fifth Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference at the Multipurpose Hall of the Federal Government Girls College, Akure, Ondo State.

In his address, the outgoing Chairman, Comrade Yusuf, acknowledged the collective efforts of the Union, emphasizing that their unity and resilience helped them overcome numerous challenges. He stated:

“Against all odds, and despite the challenges of the national crisis and the attendant paucity of funds, we were able to record some remarkable achievements.”

He highlighted one of the major accomplishments of his tenure as the establishment and maintenance of a functional synergy between the state, branch, and chapter organs of the ASCSN. He also noted the union’s efforts toward the verification and regularisation of PTA staff in Federal Unity Colleges.

Comrade Yusuf used the occasion to express his appreciation to all comrades of the Union for their steadfast support during union activities. He also extended gratitude to the Director/Principal of the collegeMrs Adenike Idiat  for her outstanding leadership, noting that she had surpassed the records of previous administrations in both staff and student development.

The event featured a conference lecture delivered by Comrade Dr. Israel Awe, a former staff member of the college and now a lecturer at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state, Comrade Clement Fatuase, emphasized the importance of unity among unions. He criticized the Ministry of Labour for its inconsistency in registering unions, which, according to him, had caused confusion regarding jurisdictional boundaries among unions in the state.

He called on the Ministry to clearly define the jurisdiction of each union and urged the Union to engage with the government on the lack of impress (operational funds) in over 90% of the ministries and MDAs within the state secretariat.

Other invited guests also delivered goodwill messages, all of which centered on the need for industrial harmony among unions to ensure progress and effectiveness.

Mrs. Magboruko, Adenike the State Controller of Labour, commended the Union for the peaceful and harmonious relationships maintained among its members. She revealed that the government is in the process of updating labour laws for the benefit of the unions.

The climax of the event was the reelection of the former ASCSN Comrade Yusuf Abiodun together with the new executives who took oath of office and

the Award of Excellence presented to the Director/Principal of the Federal Government Girls College, Mrs. Adenike Idiat. She was ably represented by the Director of Education, Mrs. Olorunyomi, who thanked the Union for the honour and dedicated the award to the entire staff of the college. She also acknowledged the efforts of the Vice Principals and other staff members in supporting her vision for lifting the college to greater heights.

Dignitaries Present at the Event Included:

Mr. Kayode Akinyemi – Representative of the National Secretariat

Mrs. Magboruko Olanike– State Controller of Labour

Dr. Israel Awe – Guest Speaker
