Akure, Ondo State – In a bold show of force and sustained vigilance, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has paraded 51 criminal suspects arrested across the state’s 18 local government areas in the last three weeks.

The arrests, which cut across various crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, human trafficking, burglary, and anti-open grazing violations, mark a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing crackdown on criminal activities.

Speaking during a special press briefing, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, noting that the state has enjoyed relative peace due to coordinated efforts by security agencies.

“Ondo State is not a safe haven for criminals,” he declared. “We will continue to pursue them relentlessly and ensure our forests, towns, and communities are safe for residents, commuters, investors, and farmers.”

Highlights of Arrests

Among the suspects paraded were:

Six notorious kidnap suspects, including a syndicate armourer who confessed to participating in at least five abductions.

One rape suspect, identified as Amos Kingsley, 29.

Seven armed robbery suspects, including Kehinde (30), Folarin (36), Aliu (28), Lukman (25), and Mada (25).

A prison escapee, Agu Joseph, who fled Okitipupa Correctional Centre and was re-arrested after committing another crime.

Suspected house burglars, including Sani, Joshua, and Pelumi.

Seven individuals disguising as scrap metal collectors, but allegedly serving as informants for kidnappers and robbers.

The Commander also detailed the arrest of individuals for violations of anti-open grazing laws, including minors who are not legally allowed to graze livestock, as well as a previously bailed suspect, Sadiq (27), who fled the state but was tracked and apprehended.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Out of the 51 suspects, 35 are set to be arraigned in court. Others will undergo internal dispute resolution processes, with further legal action depending on investigation outcomes.

Government’s Stance on Crime

Reiterating the administration’s zero tolerance for crime, the agency warned all criminal elements to vacate the state or face the full wrath of the law.

“This government places a high premium on security. We will not allow our people to live in fear. Criminals must pack their bags and leave Ondo State,” the Commander emphasized.

He also thanked the gallant officers of the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies for their unwavering service, adding that their welfare remains a top priority of the state government.
