STOLEN TRICYCLE RECOVERED AS CRIMINAL ARRESTED IN ONDO

Date: 24th September, 2025

The Ondo State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime, recovering a stolen motorcycle and arresting a notorious gunrunner who supplied illegal firearms across four states.

The development followed the investigation of an armed robbery case in Irele town, where a female victim was attacked, shot in the leg, and robbed of her unregistered TVS motorcycle, ₦250,000, and other valuables.

Swift police action led to the arrest of one suspect in Irele and two more at a hotel in Ore, further uncovering a wider criminal network. The investigation soon revealed a major arms supplier — a wanted gunrunner and local firearms fabricator — who had been operating across Ondo, Osun, Kogi, Edo, and Kwara States.

This suspect, long on the Command’s watchlist, is believed to be a central figure in providing weapons to various criminal gangs responsible for armed robberies and violent crimes in the region. The arrest is seen as a major blow to these illegal operations.

Already, four suspects connected to the case have been charged in court for armed robbery and attempted murder. Police continue to pursue remaining members of the syndicate.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, commended the officers involved for their diligence and bravery. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rooting out criminal elements:

“There will be no hiding place for criminals in Ondo State. We shall continue to pursue them, dismantle their networks, and ensure that peace and security prevail across every community.”

The Command urged the public to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible information to aid in crime prevention. All tips will be handled with utmost confidentiality.

This operation is part of the Command’s broader crime-fighting strategy, carried out by the command.
