NSCDC Ondo Sets Up 32-Member Committee to Safeguard Critical National Infrastructure

Akure, Ondo State | 24th September 2025

In a bold step toward enhancing security and resilience of key infrastructure across Ondo State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated a high-powered coordination committee tasked with the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).

The inauguration ceremony, which took place on Wednesday at the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) Hall, Alagbaka, Akure, was a significant move in aligning with the 2024 National Protection Policy and Strategy (NPPS) spearheaded by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Speaking during the launch, the NSCDC State Commandant, CC Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye (cpo, mspsp, fwip), described the meeting as a critical step in translating national security directives into practical state-level action.

“The ONSA directive gives us a clear roadmap,” Ibiloye stated. “It is a marching order to organise swift state-level coordination meetings which require meaningful stakeholder engagement, regular reviews, rapid reporting of infractions, uncompromising crime records, and prosecution.”

The summit drew participation from various stakeholders across sectors. Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), State Information Technology Agency (SITA), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), among others.

Stakeholder presentations highlighted sector-specific challenges and strategic recommendations across telecommunications, energy, physical and digital infrastructure, and solid minerals.

A 32-member committee comprising representatives from all relevant sectors was formally inaugurated. Members include:

Security Agencies: NSCDC, Nigerian Army, DSS, FRSC, Federal Fire Service

Telecoms: MTN, Glo, Airtel, NCC, SITA

Power Sector: BEDC, TCN

Digital Infrastructure: NITDA, NIMC, NCC, NOA

Government Ministries & Others: Ministries of Education, Energy, Power and Works; ALGON; NMDPRA; NUJ; Nigeria Bar Association; Akure Bankers’ Association; Traditional Institution; and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN)

The formation of the committee reflects a multi-sectoral and inclusive approach to protecting vital assets, from power lines and telecom installations to government data centers and mining facilities.

A communiqué issued at the end of the summit encapsulated the collective interventions, identified gaps, and strategic action points required to ensure effective protection of national infrastructure across Ondo State.
