Ondo State Government Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Primary Healthcare Facilities

By Exponent News Akure 29th September,2025.

Ondo State Commissioner of Health, Mr. Ajaka Awolowo, has reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving primary healthcare across the state. Speaking on a national radio station recently, Mr. Awolowo assured the public that the government is fully prepared to support primary health centers with necessary facilities and qualified personnel.

He disclosed that recruitment processes have been approved and will soon commence to fill staff shortages in many primary healthcare centers. “Doctors will be deployed to hospitals in Igbokoda, and efforts are underway to address staffing deficits in places like Owo, where primary health centers are currently understaffed,” he stated.

Mr. Awolowo also highlighted concerns at Ikare Hospital, where only four nurses are currently available and neonatal nurses are absent in the wards, underscoring the urgent need for more specialized staff.

In addition, the commissioner noted that the state government will ensure that wages for healthcare workers match those paid by the federal government, aiming to motivate and retain skilled personnel.

The government is also making progress in infrastructural development, with more hospital beds being awarded to various hospitals in the state. Additionally, local institutions are producing essential medical supplies such as medicine and surgical instruments to support healthcare delivery.

This renewed focus on primary healthcare aligns with Ondo State’s broader goal of enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality for all residents.
