Futa Teaching Hospital to Advance Nigeria’s Healthcare Landscape in 2026 – CMD

Date: 1st January, 2026

The Chief Medical Director of FUTA Teaching Hospital, Akure, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, has disclosed that the tertiary health institution is poised to advance Nigeria’s healthcare landscape in the year ahead.

In his New Year message, Ojo rang in 2026 with ambitious plans following the landmark transition of the teaching hospital from state to federal ownership.

Recounting his appointment on March 5, 2025, by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu—which ignited the shift from the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital—the CMD noted that key progress peaked with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalized on October 23, 2025, between the Federal Government and Ondo State Government under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

According to him, “This pact transferred the facility to the Federal Ministry of Health, officially launching Futa Teaching Hospital (FUTA TH) and strengthening healthcare delivery across the state and region.”

He added: “In just 48 working days, the Ministry installed vital leaders: the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Director of Administration, Director of Finance and Accounts, plus Heads of Audit and Procurement.

” On December 8, 2025, a Federal Government Inter-Ministerial Verification Team spent four days interviewing all staff for absorption into the Federal Civil Service.

“Futa Teaching Hospital rolled out a new organogram, birthing innovative units like the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics, Servicom (patients’ ombudsman), and Oncology, Molecular Biology, and Translational Medicine. Departmental heads now guide these additions, elevating the hospital to world-class standards.”

Prof. Ojo also hinted at ongoing efforts to integrate staff into the federal Integrated Personnel and Payroll System (IPPS), recruit talent at all levels, and roll out upskilling programs for clinicians and support teams.

He further promised that his administration will prioritize staff welfare, alongside essential equipment purchases and partnerships to sharpen clinical care.

Expressing thanks to President Tinubu, Governor Aiyedatiwa, the Deji of Akure, management, and staff, Prof. Ojo urged unity among workers, saying: “Let us proceed with hope, determination, and shared commitment to unprecedented growth, patient satisfaction, and excellence.”
