Ondo: Former PDP Director of Media Alleges Party Leaders of Corrupt Practices

By Exponent News, Akure. 6th October, 2025.

The former Director of Media and Publicity of the People’s Democratic Party – PDP, Mr. Leye Igbabo, has alleged the leadership of the party of corrupt practices. Speaking on the national radio programme, Igbabo said the roles played by most of these leaders have brought setbacks to the party in the state. According to him, the accused leaders’ roles in betraying the party before the ruling party in the state have weakened the party in all ramifications to the extent that PDP as a party could no longer play the role of opposition it ought to play because the leadership has betrayed them.

Igbabo affirmed his love for the party but condemned the act of suffering the public is passing through from the leadership style of the ruling party due to the fact that there was no strong opposition that could checkmate the excesses of the activities of the ruling party in the state. He explained that all he has been doing for the party was to ensure that the public feels the effectiveness of the activities of the PDP in time of putting the government on their toes. He said the party members, particularly the leadership of the party, did not recognize his struggle for the party despite the fact that he was not given a dime to his office to run the affairs of the party, yet he kept on promoting the party in the eyes of the public before he resigned his appointment then, but he was later recalled to continue his duties after the intervention of some of the party leaders like Hon. Agboola Ajayi, the then governorship flag bearer of the party then, and many others.

Similarly, Igbabo alleged most of the leadership of the party of not being faithful to the party members, and this was one of the reasons why the party was not progressing and that even called for his resignation for the second time as he could not continue to be working in a disunited organization based on his capacity as Director of Media and Publicity. He said he had reported the inappropriateness of those leaders to most of the faithful party leaders to wage in into the matter in order to ensure the peace and progress of the party.

He accused some of the party leaders of collecting money from the ruling party in order to run their personal affairs, which he found absurd, and this was one of the reasons why the party was not progressing. He accused the APC of collecting more money from the Federal Government with less development to show for it, and those that were supposed to talk from the opposition have been pocketed. When asked why he had not been performing as the Director of Media and Publicity, that was why he was sidelined, but Igbabo said that there was no time he was found wanting in carrying out his duties. He said his duties were not a hidden job as the role of the Director of Media and Publicity was to promote the party and brand the image of the party before the public.

Igbabo, who was a former councillor with more than thirty years of experience in politics, said that he knows the nitty-gritty of the politics and the party. He said he could not use his salary as his right to run the party. He said there was no money allocated to his office to run the party, and yet the party’s leaders were expecting him to perform a miracle in the aspects of publicity for the party. He said asking him to take directives from the central working committee of the party was a signal that the party did not want him to continue in the office he was holding, and that it was a way of ridiculing the office, and so he had to resign his appointment but still working with the party as a staff. He said it’s the journalists and the public that would judge his activities to know whether he was performing or not as the Director of Media and Publicity, not the party members, because he was doing his job to the best of his abilities then before he finally resigned. He said there was no time he spoke about his personal affairs on radio or did anything anti-party in any capacity that would warrant them accusing him of not carrying out his duties for the party. When asked if he still believes in the PDP as a party? His response was that he still loves the party but does not believe in the party, as love and belief in something are different things. He advised the leaders to be of good behavior and that some group had hijacked the party from the good leadership of the party.
